hello mish,

I 've read the "paris sweet house", the blog that recommended by you, .....and was terrified by the "efficiency" of french govt. We have not yet confirmed the wedding day as we are still considering whether we should register in France or in HK (try to dealing less with french govt).

Is the registration day at Sorbonne v. troublesome and messy too?

Best wishes

Maggie

Hello Maggie,

Yes, the french often surprise me with their work of working. So not only the french government, but pretty much everywhere. Even the french people themselves cannot stand it. Haa..haa..

For my experience I think it's better to register in France. From what I remember you will need to give the government office of the following documents:
- birth certificate (new application not older than 3 months)
- martial status certiication (單身證明書)
- passport copy
- all of the above translated in French by apporved tranlator in HK (can get the list from french Embassy in HK)

My instinct tells me it will be easier to registered in France. Otherwise everytime you need to do something requires marriage certiciate, you will need to present the translation of the doucment. Also you may need to check what you need to do while applying the titre de sejour (French ID card), and that is the most hassle process in the world.

Besides, you may consider do you want to sign a prenuptual agreement. Because if marry under the french law without that agreement, you and your asset will consider one. So you cannot open a bank account on your own, and also cannot apply for and individual loan, if one got bankrupt the other is also liabable for it etc etc. So doing the prenuptual agreement means you separate the asset of two. There are pro and con for both way, so you may need to ask some french lawyers for their opinions. If i am wrong let me know, I will kill 肥外。

The registration in Sorbonne is not troublesome or messy, but just that they separate a lot of process instead doing it in one day one place. And I went to a few places before starting my class.

Ar, if you can buy all the stuff for wedding in HK, everything here is like few times the price. :(

Have a good weekend.

Hello mish,

Thks a lot for your information. My fiancee will come at month end and we decide to go to the french consulate to check up the latest adm process. The complication is that the french government has recently changed the rules which requires me to return to HK after the marriage before the expiry of the 90 days visa and apply the long term visa again...

Have a nice weekend too.
Best wishes

Hello Maggie,

Yes, I've heard that too. can ask if you can register in French embassy also wor.

i don't know when the new rules has applied, because I just start the application process at the end of June, but I got my titre de sejour at the end of Sept already. I am not sure if it was because all the process is done by the lawyer appointed by the company 肥外is working for, so make all the process easier. Because having a lawyer realy simplified a lot of process in france. Maybe you can ask your finance to ask one lawyer specialised in immigration, maybe you don't need to go back to HK for that. so even you have to pay for the lawyer fee but work out maybe cheaper than the ticket to HK. Just a suggestion...not sure will work. :)

Let me know anything I can help, because i went through all the troubles already.....

hello mish,

Thanks a lot for your suggestion. Have you bought any things back from the outlet? I have visited the website. It seems ok but was not really sure about the price. :D

I have a web friend who registered in France this September (she said the rule changed on 24/7 this year)and now she needs to go back to HK and apply another 3-months visa from the embassy here (takes 1-3 weeks). With this visa, she will apply the temporary residential card (not sure if it is called titre de sejour) from the prefecture in Paris.

Given the complication and uncertainty underlying the timing of getting all kinds of documents and the application, I m really worried about if I m able to register for the Sorbonne course (winter term 2007) on time (as I won't come before July next year) as they need the residence permit during the registration (does it mean that I can only register after I get the titre de sejour?).

Should I apply for a student one in advance as I really don't want to do nothing after arrival at france.

Many thanks !

Maggie
P.S. I m planning to make my fiancee v. happy when he comes ( educating him how good our food are) :D

Hello Maggie,

Well, the price in Bal l'Europe is ok, but the shopping experience seems better than in Paris, because you can also shop in a shopping mall next to the factory outlet, where you can find all the shops, and the shop there usually are bigger and gor more stuff than in Paris.

The french really makes thing complicated, I guess they are trying to make it difficult for illegal immigrants. But also makes it difficult for us as well.

Don't worry about the registration in Sorbonne, for winter course the registration will not start until the end of September. Even though you cannot start with Sorbonne, you can always study in Alliance Francaise, they are very good as well. I think it's also easier to meet friends there as well.

If you have a temporary visa I think it's good enough to study in Sorbonne, I was register with my temporary titre de sejour as well.

SO when is your fiancé going to HK?
